-    Las preguntas con WH- QUESTIONS.

 

En inglés al igual que en español, hay dos tipos de preguntas:

 

-    Preguntas que se contestan con “si” o “no”.

 

ARE THEY HAVING LUNCH?

 

 

-    Preguntas abiertas ( Las que llevan partículas interrogativas como where?

 

WHERE ARE THEY HAVING LUNCH?

 

 

 

Las WH- QUESTIONS son preguntas que incluyen una de las siguientes siete palabras, que empiezan todas por “wh” menos la ultima. Se responden usando mas que “si” o “no”.

WHAT            Que

WHEN            Cuando

WHERE          Donde

WHY               Por qué

WHICH           Cual

WHOSE          De quien

HOW              Cómo/cuànto

 

 

-    A VECES VAN SEGUIDAS DE UN VERBO AUXILIAR

 

What have you decided?

How will you go?

 

 

-    ES COMUN UTILIZAR UN SUSTANTIVO DESPUES DE what, which y whose

 

What book are you reading?

Which hat do you want?

Whose phone is this?

 

-    EMPLEAMOS how en muchas preguntas, no solo en las que se traducen por ¿ como…?

 

How many are there?

How often do yo go to the cinema?

How long is the queue?

 

-    A MENUDO who o what pueden reemplazar al sujeto. En este caso, no invertimos el sujeto y el verbo.

 

Who cleans the kitchen?

Who will make my dinner?

 

-    SI HAY UNA PREPOSICION EN LA PREGUNTA, VA AL FINAL

 

Who are you talking to?

What are they afraid of?

ESTUDIA ESTOS EJEMPLOS

 

Estas preguntas emplean verbos auxiliares, como be, do, have, will…

 

-    Where do you work?

-    Who will you invite?

-    When is she going to be back?

-    Why have they left?

 

Observa estas preguntas que incluyen un sustantivo que indica de que estamos hablando

 

-    What time does the show start?

-    Which option do your prefer?

-    Whose pen is this?

 

Practica las preguntas con HOW, ya que son las que suelen causar más confusión.

 

-    How much does it cost?

-    How many times do I have to tell you?

-    How long is the report?

 

En estas preguntas, WHO y WHAT reemplazan al sujeto. Observa como no hay inversión de sujeto y verbo. Tampoco hay que utilizar un auxiliar.

 

 

Who wants a piece or cake?

Who will make the decision this time?

What causes nightmares?

What attacked the surfer?

 

 

Recuerda, las preposiciones van al final

 

Who does this belong to?

What are they looking at?

 

 

¡ATENCION! WHICH o WHAT?. WHAT se usa cuando las posibles respuestas son muy numerosas, mientras que WHICH, se emplea cuando el numero es limitado fácil de cuantificar WHAT´S YOUR PROBLEM?  ( Cual es tu problema?). Which of these are yours? (¿Cual de estos son tuyos?)

PREGUNTAS WH EN EL PASADO

 

 

Podemos emplear el auxiliar DID para hacer este tipo de preguntas en el pasado.

 

EL AUXILIAR DID EN PREGUNTAS.

 

-    Preguntas con respuestas “si”o “no”.

 

Did you call your mother?

 

-    Preguntas de respuesta abierta ( las que llevan “wh-words”, como when)

 

When did you call your mother?

 

 

Incluimos DID en la pregunta cuando la respuesta forma parte del objeto de la frase.

 

 

They left at five o’clock

When did they leave?

 

 

Paul ate a ham sandwich

What did Paul eat?

 

 

PREGUNTAS SIN DID

 

Sin embargo, no empleamos did cuando la respuesta forma parte del sujeto de la frase.

Who wrote Don Quijote

How many people came?
